Driven: Mazda MX-5 – the fun convertible

This is the first test for Autoreport.News with a legendary car, the Mazda MX-5. This convertible equipped with BBS rims brings back memories, we used to dream about this car while playing EA’s N4S!

With a history of already 30 years and now in its 4th generation, the MX-5 is one of the most lively models on the car market. This generation is also the most beautiful, because it inherited the KODO design lines. However, the new generation received much sharper, much more aggressive forms, compared to the old generations. Now this little car is way more appetizing for customers who want an impressive sports car. The silhouette brings an ultra-sporty car in the front row, and the optical blocks seem to come from the future.

With this new generation, Mazda has upgraded the interior of the MX-5. The materials are of much better quality, as are the finishes. The ergonomics offered to the lucky driver are very good, as well as the visibility and as a bonus, the steering response is one of the best in the segment! Connectivity is one of the main attributes of the model, thanks to the MZD Connect system, which allows smartphones to connect via Bluetooth and use its functions via the 7-inch touch screen, positioned at the top of the center console. We also mention the audio system from Bose that ensures a smooth quality sound to convince you that the interior is in complete harmony with the exterior.

MX-5 offers only 2 seats, and in the trunk I managed to fit 3 boxes of sneakers. But the two places are comfortable and fun. The seats offer all the possible lumbar and lateral comfort, they have integrated cooling and speakers in the headrest area. Even with the soft-top down, the music or phone calls sound quality is exquisite, thanks to the built-in speakers added to the seats.

Under the hood is a top-of-the-range engine, also found on other Mazda cars: a 2-liter Skyactiv-G petrol that offers 184 hp. It is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. These figures may not impress at a first glance, but the low weight of the car and the way this car can be driven reward those who prefer the sports driving. MX-5 is very maneuverable, sticks to asphalt and fits well in curves. Enough to make us want it, and a trip with this convertible model on a beautiful road is an experience we recommend at least once in a lifetime.

The Mazda MX-5 is a safe convertible. It offers many active safety systems, such as the accidental lane departure warning or the blind spot warning system. These in addition to the camera, parking sensors and many airbags.
